Short Term Team Leader Job Description

LOCATION: Chiang Rai, Thailand

BACKGROUND:

In Northern Laos, there was a people group who were completely animistic, without a single believer. Today, after 50+ prayer walking teams and diligent work from both the nationals and international workers, over 520 believers can be found among them.

As examples of the immediate need…In the last 8 years, over 200,000 Hmong/Miao people have come to Christ in N. Vietnam.  They do not have Bibles or teaching tapes in their own language.  The printed and audio resources are available and waiting to go in.

Short-term teams are waiting to go, pray and carry materials.  However, leaders are needed who will support in coordinating and facilitating these teams on prayer journeys throughout SE Asia.

SUMMARY FUNCTIONS:

The Short-Term Team Leader will work under the Short-term Team Coordinator assisting them in arranging teams from all over the world to travel on strategic prayer journeys; occasionally taking in greatly needed materials such as Bibles, tapes, teaching materials, Christian movies, etc. into restricted access countries such as Vietnam, Laos, Burma, and China.

Experienced missionaries in this type of outreach will provide training and the person would have on-going support in this role.

Language learning is not necessary for this job, but cultural awareness and sensitivity is a must. Families are welcome.

REQUIREMENTS:

Passion for God and a love for people
Mature Christian committed to the ministry of Mekong Ministries
Minimum 1 Year commitment
Be in good health
Raise support (* see note at bottom regarding the raising of support)
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

People person – energetic and out going; able to interact with all types of people, all ages, various cultural backgrounds in a respectful and uplifting way.
Adventuresome spirit – the courage and willingness to go into the unknown while leading others along with you; a pioneer/explorer at heart.
Spiritually Sensitive – you don’t need to be a prayer giant but you do need to hear God’s voice! While leading teams, you set the tempo of the journey. You must be able to discern what is going on around you as you travel.
Traveler – ability to spend extended periods of time “on the road,” sometimes leading teams back to back without much or any down time. Needs to enjoy traveling and needs to be willing and able to learn how to do the basics of traveling in a new culture.
Leader – able to lead while serving the team, make decisions, handle conflicts and unforeseen circumstances in a professional and reassuring manner.
A Team Player – able to work well in a team context as both a follower under the Mekong Ministries leader and as a leader for those on your team; willingness and ability to train new people to lead teams.
* SUPPORT

The Short-Term Team Leader candidate raises funds to cover outgoing costs (airfare, Candidate School & Orientation, insurance, setup costs, and administrative expenses).  They also raise monthly support to cover personal living expenses.  Ministry and ministry travel expenses sometimes will be covered by the fees and compensation from short-term teams.  Otherwise, travel funds must be raised through support.  The mission assists the candidate in raising support from friends and churches.
