OUR APPROACH

The diagram of our Church Planting Cycle at the bottom of the page is helpful to understand the steps involved once engaging the Unreached People Group (UPG).

We are 100% dependent on God for people, resources and fruit.

Mekong Ministries values innovative strategies, and makes it a point to ruthlessly evaluate our projects & methods to see if we are effective in reaching the goals and targets God has given us.

We aim to facilitate Indigenous and Biblical Church Planting Movements through evangelism using oral means, such as chronological Bible storying, with emphasis on lay and local leadership, non-dependency forming methods, and training of those who are then able to train others (2 Timothy 2:2).

We make prayer a priority, integrating it with our church planting ministry throughout every step. We have strategic prayer walking teams – focusing on unreached peoples in Laos, Myanmar, China and Thailand.

Below are key strategies we employ to see a movement occur.

Strategies

1. Prayer will be at the core of all that we do. Daily prayer for the UPGs as a team and individually, prayer walking, and prayer and fasting for the UPGs

2. We will facilitate church planting movements through an oral storying approach versus a literate didactic approach and will use a chronological methodology in basic evangelism and discipleship

3. We will follow the MM Church Planting Cycle (see separate sheet)

4. We will emphasize development of oral materials

5. We will emphasize training others who are able to train others (2 Tim. 2:2)

6. We will use whatever means are available to achieve this including cross-border training, drug rehab centers, business development, agriculture, hospital mercy ministry, radio-short wave and local, social media campaigns, and partnership with other ministries

7. We will encourage scriptural indigenously decided practices and forms of worship

8. We will emphasize praise and worship and create appropriate media for their use

9. We will not create artificial barriers based on education, sex, singleness or literacy for leaders

10. We will depend upon the presence and power of the Holy Spirit and not try to make things happen in our own strength.

11. We will learn language and culture in accordance with gifts, life situation and ministry.

12. We will use the 10 Universals of a church planting movement as explained in David Garrision’s book Church Planting Movements as a base measurement/evaluation tool
